God’s Miracles and Support in My Life
Hi, my name is Helen, and I would like to share my testimony with you.
I grew up in several countries, one of them was Switzerland, where my father worked at the World Health Organisation. There I studied to be a medical assistant, but then decided to work for Lufthansa, where I flew as an air hostess for almost 10 years. I met my husband on one of my flights. It was one of these fairy tale stories. He was a passenger, and we married not long after we met, and had two wonderful children, Bjorn and Ted. We then decided to immigrate to Australia. This was possible through my husband's profession as a TV producer. He was offered a job in Melbourne in his profession, which he accepted. So in 1983 we moved to Australia.
Five months after we arrived in Melbourne, our youngest son Ted had a near drowning accident in our swimming pool, which left him severely disabled (With cerebral palsy, totally stiff, bent backwards, crying in a high pitched voice with one epileptic fit after the other. The only thing he could control was the blinking of his eyelids). It was absolutely heart rendering. I said to God: ‘If you are real, please reveal yourself to me, and help me, because I can't cope with this.' We started an extensive therapy with Ted, and placed an article on the front page of the local paper looking for volunteers to help. The next day, I received a phone call, and we met a few days later. I went along to a meeting of the Revival Centres of Pastor Lloyd Longfield, and was convicted straight away, after seeing the seriousness and love for God of these people. But being a very sceptical person, it took me several months until I got baptised and received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, just like it is promised in God's word ACTS 2:37-38. On the same day I experienced many miracles. The first was that I was filled with so much joy and strength (which I needed desperately, for I had hardly slept since my son's accident), my son Ted was able to swallow again (up to that time he had to be fed with a nasal gastric feeding tube), and his epileptic fits ceased right away. My husband, who was an alcoholic, greeted me with the words: ‘I am going to stop drinking' when I came home, and he really did it. He had no withdrawal symptoms. I was so grateful to God! How many years had I begged Him to stop – to no avail!
Two years later, my husband got saved as well, after he witnessed the disappearance of quite a big tumour in one of my breasts, which I had discovered. Having had cancer before, my doctor was very concerned. Unfortunately we could not get it investigated further because it vanished after prayer while I sat in the waiting room of a specialist. Through this miracle though, my doctor started going to church again.
In 1986 we returned to Hamburg, Germany, where we joined the Christian Assemblies International. And in 1999 I moved to Perth, Scotland, with my son Ted.
Ted has improved continuously over the last years. Very slowly though. We have had many small and big miracles, but it would fill a book telling you about all of them. He is still in a wheelchair, enjoys life and is mentally quite alert. Without God I would not have been able to cope with all the problems over these last years. He has always been truthful to His promise, and given me the necessary strength, guidance and help to cope with every situation, and I am very, very grateful for this. He has always kept a watchful eye on my first born as well, and helped him too, for it was not easy to grow up with a brother who got so much more attention than he did.
I would like to thank God with all my heart, that He helped us so much, and that He revealed to us His big secret about salvation. Please don't wait too long, the time is running out, turn to Him with all your heart, and He will give you the wonderful gift of your salvation as well. He promises this in His Word, and will help you with all your problems.
God bless,
Helen
